Job Search Frustration? 5 Tips to Help Find Success

An extended or prolonged job search can be an incredibly frustrating time. Whether you’re trying to enter the workforce for the first time or re-enter after some time away, the process can be equally stressful and time-consuming. If you find that you’re having difficulty managing the ins and outs of the job hunt, try utilizing some of the tips below in order to minimize your stress levels and increase your odds of landing that dream job.

1. Don’t Apply to Every Job

It’s a common mistake of the novice job seeker to apply to every position they could even be remotely qualified for. Not only does this waste a lot of time, it can actually be the source of much of your frustration. Instead, try to target jobs that are in your area of interest, expertise or knowledge. Apart from relieving some of the stress and frustration of the job-seeking process, this will also make your job much more enjoyable once you finally do get your foot in the door.

2. Utilize Whichever Networking Methods Work for You

Success in the 21st century is all about networking. Whether you’re talking about personal or career success, there’s simply no way to ignore the benefits of modern networking. However, given the myriad of networking options, it can be difficult to determine which one is right for you.

Generally speaking, you should embrace the methods you’re most comfortable with. If you are used to sending emails, for example, pursue opportunities that let you submit a resume via email. On the other hand, those who are used to modern social media sites will find that LinkedIn is full of useful resources and even potential leads on new jobs.

3. Find and Follow an Inspiration

If you are having difficulty in the job-seeking process, either as a result of constant rejections, unnecessary stress or something else entirely, try to find and follow an inspiration. Your personal inspiration could be anything at all, including another person, a physical object, a concept or even a specific goal or milestone.

4. Maintain Balance

You’ll also want to maintain proper balance between searching for jobs and enjoying your free time. In the case of long-term or prolonged job hunts, try to designate a few hours per day to the job-seeking process. Once your daily hunt is complete, leave it alone for the rest of the day. You’d be surprised at how this simple practice can reduce the overall stress associated with finding and landing a job.

5. Recognize Your Own Accomplishments

Finally, make sure to recognize the accomplishments you do make, including any milestones or goals you’ve established for yourself. Regardless of how small or large your goals are, simply rewarding yourself for a job well done can increase self-motivation, improve morale and help you adopt a positive mindset.
