4 MORE Questions You Should Be Asking at Your Next Interview

While it’s easy to sit back and answer the standard questions that your interviewer has to ask, this is rarely the best method when it comes to securing a job. Instead, try to take a proactive approach by asking the interviewer some questions of your own. Not only does it show your genuine interest and enthusiasm for the role at hand, but it can pave the way for more profound, more meaningful questions as the interview goes on.

What exactly are the day-to-day responsibilities of this role?

Let’s face it: printed job descriptions only go so far. Many are outdated and, as a result, paint an inaccurate or incomplete picture of the job in question. Questions like this give you a better idea of your day-to-day obligations while also providing the interviewer a chance to fill in any details that were missing from the original job posting.

Why is this position vital to the company’s overall success?

This question helps you determine the value of the job that you’re applying to. Not only does it give you an indication of the longevity of the role in question, but it can even provide insight into opportunities for future advancement within the company.

What are your expectations after 30, 60, and 90 days?

As a new employee, you must have a strong understanding of your new employer’s expectations. If there is any doubt, don’t hesitate to ask for their specific expectations after 30, 60, and 90 days. If this is a temporary job, you mustn’t look much farther than that. For more extended roles, you might even ask about the expectations after one year.

Where do you think this company is headed in the future?

While this serves as more of a bonus question, it’s a great way to gain a sense of the company’s expected longevity. Not only is it helpful when planning your future schedule, but it can give you an indication of how long (or brief) your job might last.
