Why You Should Focus on Passive Talent

Active job seekers tend to get a lot of attention amongst hiring managers, and it’s no secret why. They are, after all, the ones who are actively seeking out new opportunities, applying to jobs and attending interviews. While these recruits often make great workers once they’re hired, they’re not the only candidates you should consider.

Passive talent, on the other hand, is often better qualified and more experienced than their active counterparts. The main problem with recruiting passive employees is the fact that they’re not out looking for jobs – most of them are already gainfully employed.

But this doesn’t mean that they can’t be lured away from their present employer with an attractive benefits package, additional perks, or higher pay. Much of this passive talent will readily leave their current roles for any of the perks, as mentioned earlier – you just have to find them first.

  • Utilize social media.  Given the popularity of social media today, it only makes sense that employers would tap into this niche when searching for passive recruits.
  • Leverage employee referrals.   Launching an internal employee referral program can go a long way in sourcing and securing talent that isn’t available through traditional recruitment channels.
  • Perform some independent research.  Spend some time investigating and locating potential recruits on your own. Start by looking at the websites of other companies in your industry, as many of these sites include a roster of their most valuable staff members.
  • Create an internal database. Finally, make sure to keep detailed records of any potential recruits you’ve sourced in a confidential, internal database. This helps you track the ones that have already been contacted while making it easy to

What are the Benefits of Hiring Passive Recruits?

The most successful hiring strategies blend both active and passive talent into a pool of highly motivated and qualified workers. However, there are some benefits to focusing on passive talent, including:

  • Since they’re not actively looking for work, they’re unlikely to be interviewing with any other employers
  • Passive recruits who are stuck in dead-end jobs will eagerly embrace any opportunities for growth and development
  • Much of your passive talent will already come with the necessary skills and experience for the job at hand

As you can see, there are plenty of benefits to hiring passive recruits. For more information on passive talent, or to put your new hiring plan into effect as soon as possible, contact the experts at Mega Force today!
