You Landed an Interview, Now What?

The standard interview process can be a stressful task, but it all pays off once the interview is over, and you find out that you’ve got the job. Until that happens, however, it’s all too easy to get stuck in a hole of worry and anticipation. To make your wait a little bit easier, and perhaps a little bit shorter, make sure you’re prepared for the interview to begin with.

Bring Your Resume

Start by making sure your resume is presentable. This might require an update, either to add your most recent job or to highlight new skills, but it’s an important step that shouldn’t be ignored.

Moreover, make sure to bring your resume with you to each interview you attend. Although this might seem like common sense, it’s easy to forget it at home when you’re in a rush.

Contact Information

Next, make sure you have the contact information of the hiring manager in question. This includes the company’s address, as well as the hiring manager’s name and phone number.

Leaving your house without the company’s address might make it impossible to find your interview location – especially in larger cities, where parking may be a challenge, or the site is not directly on a public transit line. Bring your ID as well, in case it is needed to pass through security once you arrive.

Practice the Interview

Finally, take some time – at least a few minutes – to practice the interview beforehand. This can be done in front of a mirror or with the help of a friend who assumes the role of the interviewer. In either case, practice answering some of the most common interview questions and make sure that you’re making the right amount of eye contact while speaking. Too little eye contact might actually hurt your chances of landing the job at the end of the interview. Be prepared to ask a few of your own interview questions too; being an engaged candidate will work in your favor.  These articles from Mega Force provide some ideas on the kinds of questions you might want to ask.
