Get Your Resume to the Top of the Staffing Agency Pile

There’s simply no getting around the fact that staffing agencies deal with a ton of resumes. With some agencies receiving hundreds or even thousands of new resumes nearly every single day, it can be difficult to come up with a stellar resume that stands out above the rest.

Writing a resume that is sure to make it to the top of a staffing agency’s pile is not an easy task by any means, but a little hard work, some diligence and a little bit of creativity can go a long way in making sure that your resume grabs the attention of today’s staffing agencies.

Show Off Your Accomplishments

Make sure that you use your resume to show off your most recent and valuable achievements from your career. While you’ll definitely want to reserve some space on your resume to list your chronological work history, showcasing real and quantifiable accomplishments at the beginning of your resume is sure to grab the attention of the read. Such credentials will carry even more weight if they are relevant to the specific job or industry that you are applying to.

Address Any Career Gaps or Short-Term Assignments

When engaging in the interview process, always take the time to address any career gaps or short-term assignments you may have had. Not only does this avoid painting you as a job hopper, but those who provide this information on their own and without hesitation are more likely to be seen as honest and reputable employees.

Provide As Much Contact Information As Possible

Given the current state of mobile technology and social media, many jobseekers of today have numerous ways of staying in contact with their friends, family members and even professional contacts. As such, you’ll want to provide your staffing agency with as much contact information as possible, including your name, home address, phone number and email address.

Some may even want to include further contact information, such as separate home and cell phone numbers or addresses to personal websites and social media profiles. While this isn’t necessary by any means, it does give your staffing agency multiple avenues of contacting you. Moreover, it shows that you are accessible if an opportunity should arise.

Include a List of References

You’ll also want to include a list of three or four references with your resume. Although some staffing agencies and hiring managers may never contact your references, it’s always a good idea to include them just in case. Being proactive by including references will also show you want the hiring manager to contact them and you have nothing to hide.

Initiate Appropriate Follow-Up Communications

Finally, don’t hesitate to initiate follow-up communications if you have yet to hear back from a staffing agency. However, make sure to give them enough time to review your profile completely. Two or three days will suffice in most cases, but some may take up to five or even seven business days. In either case, just keep in mind that patience and persistence are critical.
