Will Google Jobs Have a Major Impact on Recruitment?

As more job seekers turn to the internet in search of legitimate employment, temp agencies who do much of their business online – like Mega Force – are gearing up for the busiest year yet. But the new year brings on some new competition in the form of Google for Jobs – and employers who rely on the internet to advertise their job openings have no choice but to adjust.

What is Google for Jobs?

Launched in mid-2017, Google for Jobs is really starting to take off. It’s a platform that constantly combs the web for the latest job listings and openings. It aggregates content from many different job boards, placement services and online classified ads and makes it all easily viewable – and even searchable – in a format that is already familiar to users of their traditional search engine. As such, the new innovation is already generating a lot of attention.

Sundar Pichai, Google’s CEO, points out that almost half of current employers reported difficulty in finding and securing top talent for mission-critical jobs during 2017. This talent shortage is something that Google for Jobs hopes to address – but it’s already changing the job hunt we’ve all become accustomed to.

During the initial unveiling of the Google for Jobs platform, Pichai introduced the new service by saying: “While job seekers may be looking for openings right next door – there’s a big disconnect here. We want to better connect employers and job seekers through a new initiative, Google for Jobs.”

Google for Jobs is well under way. Although it’s only a few months old at the time of this writing, employers already use it to find new recruits and top talent in their industry. But the most successful ones are adapting new and innovative strategies in order to make the most of the young platform.

How do Companies Need to Adjust?

The Google for Jobs search engine promises to maximize the exposure of your new job listings. But it doesn’t do this automatically. Currently, there are two primary ways of posting an ad on Google for Jobs:

  • Integrate your company web presence with Google. By linking your website’s career page directly to Google for Jobs, the new search engine will immediately pick up any new openings. Just make sure your pages are indexable and they include structured data for maximum exposure. You can also use the Google Search Console to monitor the performance of your new job postings.
  • Use a third-party site or service. Many sites allow you to post on Google for Jobs through their own platform, including professional networks like LinkedIn and many different job-oriented websites. More sites will likely integrate with Google for Jobs in the coming weeks, months and years.

For many, the choice comes down to the size and scope of their business. Larger, established corporations will likely integrate direct with Google, while smaller companies, including many startups, will rely on third-party companies and services to bridge the gap.

Making the Most of Google for Jobs

There’s no tried-and-true method of ensuring top placement on Google for Jobs – it is a brand new service, after all. But many of the traditional SEO techniques apply – including keywords and phrases, the absence of technical jargon and bulleted lists. While it is a complicated art form, it’s one that can be mastered with time and practice.
