How to Learn About Your Audience BEFORE Your Job Interview

In the past, it was common for a job seeker to accept an offer without knowing anything about their new employer. However, these days are long gone. Thanks in large part to the Internet, there are more resources available than ever before. Between looking at the company’s website to considering their reputation on social media, there’s no longer an excuse for being uninformed.

Company website

A company’s website can provide you with a lot of information about a prospective employer – but don’t expect an unbiased opinion here. Instead, use the official website to research a company’s history, view available job opportunities, and gain some insight into their general culture.

However, if you want an unbiased opinion on a company, their official website is probably the worst place to look. Remember, this site was specifically designed to make the company look as good as possible. As such, you’ll have to dig a little deeper to find an opinion that you can trust.

Social media

Modern social media is one of the most effective ways of researching a potential employer. Not only can you find genuine reviews left by real people – including former employees and customers alike – but, in some cases, you can see exactly how the company responds.

Information like this can give you further insight into a company’s reputation, how they respond to criticism (or praise), and how they interact with the general public. At Mega Force, we share on information on our social media pages to provide a glimpse at our company:

Online review sites

Today’s online review sites can be an invaluable tool when it comes to researching a prospective employer – as long as you know which ones to avoid. In some cases, companies pay these review sites to secure a higher ranking or better review than their competitors – and the results can hurt everyone involved.

As such, you should always make sure you are using a reputable review site. Moreover, take the time to read as many different reviews as possible, both good and bad. It always helps to have multiple perspectives on a potential employer.

Talk to your recruiter

Finally, take the time to talk your recruiter – either online or in person.
